The lector serves an essential role in the worship that is offered to God in every Liturgy, not only on Sundays, but on Holy Days of Obligation as well as several devotional experiences throughout the year.
When the printed words of Scripture are presented in a reverent manner by the lector, God’s Word comes to the congregation in a proclamation of immediacy.  By the power of the Holy Spirit, God’s Word is spoken directly to the hearts and minds of all those present.
As an instrument of God’s Word, the lector gives purpose to the Word and serves not only God, but the people of God.
In addition to proclaiming the Word of God, the lector also announces the Universal Prayer and intentions with sincerity and empathy.
